Your Dad is a smart, intelligent guy who has his head screwed firmly on his shoulders…..and he is man enough to know that he doesn’t need an expensive car to prove his success.

I’m with your dad. The kind of car you drive doesnt measure your importance. Sounds like you could learn something from listening to your father.
Not everyone has their values attached on the outside, and thankfully your dad’s values are on the inside. Meaning basically he is practical. He could extend himself financially and drive what everyone else is driving, but perhaps he is ‘socking’ money away in a private fund for your college or your retirement fund. That’s being practical. Or better yet, that one day he and your mom will retire to a beautiful house in Bermuda, debt free, while those other schmucks will be still working paying off bills (overcharging people at that) just to try and out-do each other.
It’s about ethics. Be proud of who he is, and better yet, learn from his example!
Obviously phony image and the need to look important are not part of his forte…..From your statement he simply exudes independence and self assurance and does not feel that an expensive toy is a means to an end for him as far as image is concerned… you should be proud of him and take note…
Your dad is a well educated highly respected man with a lot of responsibilities–the car is his stress relief because he enjoys it and that is his choice. Just like anyone else there–they can drive what they want. He made his choice–you need to leave it be.
