I’m not a driver, but I’m a dispatcher for 30 local drivers in WA. They all own their own trucks, and they all switched to local work after spending many years doing long haul. New drivers don’t have as many options with companies, as many companies are now requiring more experience to hire someone. Long haul companies (Schneider, JB Hunt, Interstate, Knight Transportation) are usually easier to get jobs with because many experienced drivers don’t want to work in long haul. Also, check with the very small companies in your area (mom n pop operations). If you are considering truck driving, you need to consider how long you want to be away from your family. How much money do you expect to make? Many drivers make 100,000+ a year gross, but after expenses, taxes, and maintenance, this becomes much lower. I think the biggest complaint about the job that my local drivers have is that the union workers at the terminal are not good to work with. Hope this helps a bit.

They favor the ones that have more home time and better mileage. Or Owners of there own truck they get paid more. But there;s no one company out there thats better.
