My son has a very rare abdominal sarcoma with very few treatment options. Vioxx was actually one of the drugs being used by patients with his disease with some amount of success. It’s withdrawal as an option for these patients was devastating. Only one patient whose mother is an oncology nurse was able to gather enough Vioxx to continue treating her son. He is cancer free . . not necessarily totally from taking Vioxx . . but it does seem to have kept the sarcoma from developing. At the moment we have about four patients using Celebrex as a ‘maintenance drug ‘ . . and so far, so good . .they are doing well.

I wish people who did not understand because they don’t have cancer or a child with cancer . . or they have political agendas or motivation would stay out of all this.

We feel that vioxx should remain an option for those who have few options to begin with.

I don’t think so. Still, that’s easy to say when you aren’t in horrible pain. Then again, what would you do if you were in so much pain you just couldn’t stand it? You never know for sure what you would do until you are faced with the situation yourself.

I wouldn’t. These drugs were never intended to be used long-term. And, actually, Celebrex is still available through prescription. However, it’s usage has greatly declined because doctors know how dangerous it is.
