I did talk to the apartment manager. He was sympathetic and understanding, but had to answer to a larger property management firm. There was no way for me to deal with them personally. They weren't so understanding. The result was a blemish on my credit history for 7 years. Oh well. I wish you the best of luck. I had to take a job with a non-union shortline myself 3 weeks ago.
