I was on birth control for about 4 years before trying to conceive. I conceived about 4.5 months after going off the pill, and yes, my hubby and I were actively trying to conceive. I charted basal body temperature, checked other signs of fertility, and the cycle I got pregnant was the cycle I used an ovulation predictor kit. I highly recommend the OPKs. My husband and I were in our late ’20s when we conceived, and I had been taking prenatal vitamins, we both had started eating healthier, and he had switched to boxers instead of briefs. I hope something here helps you. Good luck!

3 long years of trying

it took me 3 weeks but I was only 18 and my bf was 19 so that might be why age has alot to do with it

I was on birth control for about a year when my husband and I decided to try to get pregnant. It took us about 6 months of on-and-off active trying, although we didn’t use ovulation kits or anything. My periods are really irregular, so that made it even more tricky for us. We are both healthy people…sometimes it just takes a while.

For my son, 2 months.

For my daughter, 15 months.

You shouldn’t feel any concern at all until after six months of trying, and even then, your body might not have settled down yet. Talk to your doctor.

Good luck.

It took a little over 3 years, but that one ended in a miscarriage. I got pregnant again approx 4 years after going off the pill, and have a beautiful baby girl.
I was on the bc pill for almost 8 years, and when I went off my cycles were very irregular. I was actively trying, but it wasn’t until after my miscarriage that I began taking my basal temp & using opk’s.
Good luck to you – I hope you become pregnant soon!!

I was off for about 3 months. Not actively trying to concieve. Had been on the pill for 3 years prior (after my daughter was born). I am now 18 weeks pregnant.

I was on birth control for 6 years. It took me a month and a half to become pregnant with my daughter. We weren’t actively trying or anything. We just decided to stop the birth control and if it was meant to happen it would… and did. lol.

I was on birth control for 9 years!! I got pregnant on the last month i decided to stop taking it!!! My husband and i were talking about it!!! Then it happened!!! So you sound young and healthy i believe it will happen when the time is right!!

I had heard that it took a month for every year of Birth Control so I figured we had some time as i had been on BC for almost 15 years (pill and depo) – well, the very first month was when I got pregnent! What a surprise to me. You should still be fine! Good luck

Like you, I married someone a bit older, 15 years older than me. I was in my late 20′s when time came to start a family. I had been on the pill for several years. So there I was, every morning, charting my basal temp. I remember having difficulty trying to evaluate the cryptic results my thermometer produced. Some days, I would completely forget to take my temp. Others, I’d take it & then forget to write it down.
There was all sorts of advice flooding in from those "in the know". We were bombarded with suggestions- everything from him eating bananas & me eating pickles, to him putting a pillow below me & facing the foot of the bed a certain way. I imagine those "in those know" had a few laughs at our expense, but we actually had a good time testing their suggestions.
While attempting to figure out the chart, we tried abstaining, too, waiting for the right time to build up & go for it, full out. We were both so excited, nervous, happy & just plain loony over it (and each other).. all at the same time.

The following month, I became pregnant.

I kept that temp chart. Have it to this day, with a little pink bow that was (9 months later) taped to the top right corner. ;-)
On the chart, there are a few dates with circles around them or arrows pointing to them with question marks. On one day in particular, my husband added his notes & we went back & forth, driving each other mad. I’ll end my answer by sending out my best wishes to you & your beloved, along with a huge cyber hug,
a wee prayer for the wee-one-to-be, & sharing those notes with you.

Here they are:

Just over 2 months with no protection, but not exactly trying, just leaving it up for chance.
