Not certain since a strange. I’m certain my father is not a usually male who’s ever had a vasectomy reversal. People think it is strange because vasectomy reversal is based on somewhat flawed logic. The chances of success are very low. From the point of view of the average person, it is a waste of money.

Nobody is making fun of you. They just have trouble understanding why you would spend money on such a procedure when there is such a small chance that it will be successful, and why are you trying to look for sperm yourself when you already forked over a very large sum of money for processional help. Wouldn’t the cost of the semen analysis be pretty much a "drop in the bucket" compared to the cost of the surgery?

	There is a website that sells microscopes for this purpose. It will need to be at least 400X. I can’t remember the site but you can search for it. More importantly they also sell sperm sized spheres for you to practice looking at before you try to find sperm. Good Luck.

Hi,
I answered your other question, I had a successfull reversal. If you have a microscope checking is easy and could probably be done any time you want, even after sex.
Excuse me for being graphic, but, get your scope setup on a table or dresser, have sex, and a some point afterward you stand up and wait for some semen to drip out of yourself, catch it in a suitable container. Drip some on a glass slide, put a cover slip on the drop, place in microscope and see what you can see. It took two months before I saw any swimmers. Good luck !!!!!

I’m the wife of a man who had a VR about 2 1/2 years ago. I routinely do at home SA’s. Preferably, obtain a sample in a clean glass or hard plastic cup (don’t use those little waxed paper cups because the wax will gum and/or kill the sperm quickly…I found that out through experience). A sample collected the way a pp mentioned after bd’ing will give you results but not an accurate count because the real good swimmers are already "on the move" and won’t be in the sample and not all the sample will be collected either. Anyway you collect the sample in the container and let it sit a few minutes to allow it to liquify in a warm place, not hot, not cold, perferably close to your skin, such as under your shirt. Then stir, and as pp said, place a single drop on a slide and cover with the plastic cover-slide. The drop should be just big enough to spread out to the diameter of the cover slide. Too much or too little leads to inaccurate results. Then look at it at 100X. You should see black "pepper flakes" that move. Focus. Switch to 400X and re-adjust the focus. At this mag, you should see oval, transparent sperm heads with dark tails. They are still small. For a rough estimate of sperm count, count all the sperm in a single viewfield at 400X then devide that number in half. Then call it millions per ml. (EG…46 sperm counted, half is 23, count is 23 Million sperm per mililiter.) You can even suck up the sample into a medicine dispenser (eyedrop kind) that has ml on the side to find out how many mililiters your SO produces and multiply that to get the total sample sperm count. But just know, 20 million per ml is generally considered fertile. So just counting and getting to 40, esp if they are moving ones, is a great sign. You can start seeing sperm right away, although it takes 75 days for the new sperm produced after the VR to make it through "the pipes". Sperm counts will increase gradually throughout the first year post VR with the greatest increase seen at approximately the 10 week post op mark. GL
