Hi, has he been exposed to gluten meaning anything with wheat, barley, rye, triticale, spelt, kamut?
Have you fed him any mixed cereal, oatmeal, breads, etc.
Since celiac is an autoimmune genetic disease, it is certainly possible that he has celiac (emphasis on the genetic) even as a baby. However, since it is also an autoimmune disease, he needs to be exposed to the protein that causes the antigen response which in this case is gliadin and glutenin.

Basically, from what I have read, constipation can be a symptom in children with celiac. Here is a link I think you will find helpful:

please feel free to join the forum and ask any questions you need. We are all online to help and will happily and nicely answer any questions you have. I want you to specifically find Ursa Major ok? And then talk to your gastroenterologist about your concerns. I think it is certainly worth considering.
I hope this helps! Blessings ‘nama
Hi again. If you see a difference when he eats oatmeal, I would def. talk to the doctor about it. You can try a certified gf oatmeal (like bob’s red mill) and see if you get a reaction. Regular oatmeal is contaminated with gluten in the fields, during harvest, transport and processing, so it is not gf unless precautions are taken. I really hope this helps your son, it must be so frustrating to know your child is ill and not have solid answers as to how to help him!
Hello! Some people are born with celiac disease, others are born with the potential and only develop the disease after some major stressor occurs (i.e. severe illness, life stress like a divorce, etc.).
Here is a link to a wonderful lecture by Dr. Warren at the University of California at San Diego:

There are some very helpful celiac groups. Silly Yaks is a US based Yahoo! group that has LOADS of helpful information on celiac disease, and especially CD in children:

Celiac Disease is a very strange disease because the symptoms can be very diverse. My husband was diagnosed with CD a year ago at the age of 37. He feels he has had the disease for his entire life. He also had atypical symptoms. Constipation with celiac disease is VERY possible as a symptom.
It is very good advice to not feed your child anything that contains gluten. However, babies will put anything and everything in their mouths. Unless you have a totally gluten-free home, your child will likely continue to get contaminated. Just a helpful tip…if you kiss your son right after you’ve eaten a sandwich…or anything else with gluten…you are potentially contaminating him with gluten.
Speak with the GI specialist and definitely have your son tested and diagnosed. Do this BEFORE you remove gluten from his diet. Unless treated, if celiac disease is active in these early formative years, it is very common for the children to have bone density problems, osteoporosis, osteopenia, teeth problems, small stature, the list goes on.
Another bit of FYI…not all GI specialists are knowledgeable about celiac disease. Look for one who has a lot of experience working with the disease. Ask the people on Silly Yaks if they know of a good GI specialist in your area.
Good luck and I hope your son starts to feel better soon!

You could try a genetic test through enterolab to see if your son has the genetics for celiac disease. If he does, get yourself tested and the rest of your family too. I also included an article about diagnosing CD in children and how hard it is.
Good luck and hope he gets better.
