My father had this finished years ago, though newly we have been meditative about "what if" the lot. Now which we am coming menopause, my durations have been some-more symptomatic- roughly mimics pregnancy. Just extraordinary if any one knows of the unsuccessful vasectomy- right divided or years after.

Yes it is called Spontaneous recanalization of the vas deferens after vasectomy
It is rare but you can read about it here

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/4658648

I would assume that it is rarer in a closed ended vasectomy but cannot state with any certainty

Yes, I once had a vasectomy and a few years later some lady that I married got pregnant. I asked the doctor and he said it was done improperly.

So we put the baby on some person’s doorstep…

Hi. I know it is possible but have heard no direct stories. My husband and I are expecting in 3 weeks, but we had to have his vasectomy surgically reversed so we could conceive. I guess anything is possible, but it’s unlikely after all these years.

Recanalization is uncommon with old school vasectomy techniques. More modern techniques are somewhat sloppy, and tend to lead to this more often.

I had my vasectomy 21 years ago. I go to a urologist and get a semen analysis done every five years to be safe. Your husband should do the same. The cost is only a co-pay if you have insurance and it covers labs (That is true unless the doctor charges some one-time new patient fee or something like that).

If you are all that worried you can use condoms until he gets the results back. It usually only takes one or two days.

I hang around a lot of child-free men (that means we do not want children). Most of us had vasectomies in our early 20’s, and most of us are in our 40’s now. Not a one of us has experienced a recanalization.

Good luck
