You should have checked the vehicle out better before you traded.

IL lemon laws, like the lemon laws in all states, cover NEW, not used cars. If the same problem occurs multiple times, and the dealership is given the chance, but is unable to solve the problem, you can then file under lemon laws. Used cars are generally sold as is unless there is a written warranty given at the point of sale.

To quote the attorney general:

Is My Vehicle a Lemon?
In order to be covered by the Illinois Lemon Law, a vehicle must:

have a nonconformity that both substantially impairs the use , market value or safety of the vehicle and is not repairable by the dealer or manufacturer in at least four attempts for the same repair, or

be out of service for a total of 30 or more business days.

The Lemon Law DOES Cover: New Cars (purchased or leased)
Light Trucks and vans under 8,000 pounds
Recreational vehicles (excluding trailers)
Vehicles in their first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first
Vehicles purchased in Illinois

The Lemon Law DOES NOT Cover: Used Cars
Altered or modified vehicles
Motorcycles and boats

go to your local court office and see if theres a case for such a matter.

Right. Lemon law coverage on a 13 year old car. You’re joking.

Lemon laws protect the buyers of NEW cars from serious, recurring DEFECTS. Used cars have no protection under the lemon laws. Private car sales are always sold "as is" unless the seller gave you a written warranty. Seller is right, the car and all its problems are yours now.
