Did the pain related to physical activities, for example, it happens when you are running, or working and disappear when you rest. Did the pain radiating to elsewhere, for example to the back or to your shoulder. Did the pain moving randomly in your chest (it didnt have an anchor), did the pain start to happen when your relation with your girlfriend broke?

There is two possible explanation to this symptom, either it is an organic or non organic. Organic mean there is disturbances in your body that can bee seen (eg heart, brain, blood), in this case the likely involved organs is heart due to the location of pain. It is called angina pectoris, it happens beacuse there is temporary narrowing in your coronary vessel diameter, as a result the oxygen delivery to your heart muscle is disrupted temporary. The oxygen hungry muscle cell then release inflammatory mediator that cause pain.
It is not a life threatening disease, so you dont have to worry. Beside that there is several facts that benefit you ( young, athlete, no family history, not smoking, no diabetes mellitus).

The other possibilities was non organic cause, you may have depression or anxiety. It is common for these patient to experience episode of chest pain. The depression or anxiety could come from your relationship problem, your study or any other source.

The best thing to do is ask your doctor. I’ve had sharp and sudden pains in my chest a few times in my life and I was emotionally stressed during those times. I honestly don’t know what it is but I doubt it’s anything serious. Try not to worry too much, just talk to a doc about your concerns.

Frankly I doubt that you have any heart ailment, except the stress, you mentioned. If possible remove this factor from yours life, then with the activities you mentioned, you will pass a long healthy life.
