I’ve being doing a lot of research on VR and haven’t seen anything about birth defects. Sometimes certain eggs or sperm aren’t completely healthy and can cause birth defects. I wouldn’t worry about it, and if concerned talk to your doctor. I haven’t seen anything and my husband also had a vasectomy in a previous marriage, and we’re looking into VR.

I can’t imagine anything in a reversal that would lead to a mentally retarded child. The older you and hubby get, however, the more likely you can have a child with birth defects. Not all are detectable prior to birth.

Our published research recently has shown that sperm health from a genetic point of view after vasectomy reversal is no different than that of men who are fertile without a vasectomy or reversal. This study examined the process of DNA synthesis, recombination, meiosis and sperm chromosomal content.
