Sorry, your 9-year old car will not be covered by any Lemon Law.

Only a few states have Lemon Laws covering used vehicles, and the one caveat that exists is that the vehicle must still be under the original manufacturer’s warranty. No 9-year old car is under the original warranty.

Your dad proved that he needs to stop playing armchair lawyer and stick to other professions. Sorry to be harsh, but everyone screams "Lemon Law!" when they buy any old POS and "Lemon" is a legal term that doesn’t just get tossed around for the hell of it.

Head gaskets on that 2.4L Quad 4 engine going bye-bye are par for the course. If this is a 3100/3400 v6, intake manifold gaskets blow and that’s par for the course.

If you ask us beforehand, we tell you this. After you buy the car, it’s too late to do anything but repair the car out of your own pocket.

I like the look of those 98-05 Grand Ams, but I can’t convincingly tell you a good reason to buy one.
