You can activate a phone that was previously used on a monthly billing plan on our Prepaid service provided it is a dual-mode or tri-mode CDMA GPS-compatible handset that is compatible with our network. The older blue/orange fireball/with orange contact side or blue/orange fireball/blue contact side 3G Att/cingular sims work fine without a six month lock. They have tons of those new on ebay still cheap. Avoid orange Cingular 64k 2G sims and older all Blue Att sims. They will not lock down, but just won't activate. You can get a local number with any working Att sim for Gophone/prepaid as long as you go to their online account activation and punch in the relevant details. It is all at the Att website. Or you can call 1-800-331-0500 and ask for prepaid/gophone info /help. And Verizon phones and Sprint phones DO NOT use sims. Only Tmobile and Att ones do. Att ones will work fine with this sim but Tmobile ones will have to be unlocked first. Boost/Nextel phones use sims but are incompatible with Att/Tmobile sims.
