You can be fired for any reason or no reason at all, right now I would be concerned mainly on the security clearance. Here is what you need to do. First, call them and see if they will set up a meeting with you. If they will, you need to let them know that you indeed are innocent and that they can let you go, but they had better reconsider the reason because if they give harmful false accusations you will be forced to acquire the help of a lawyer. If you mention lawyer to them, and mean it, mention it in a mature serious manner, then they should reconsider. If they refuse to meet with you then you need to contact a lawyer and let him contact them. I really doubt they want a lawsuit over something like this, let them take your job away, sounds like it is not a good place to be with the distrust they have in you anyway, but don't let them take away your future with the false accusations. Good for you for standing up for yourself!!

As this is NC, you should consult with an attorney in your state. They do not have suffecient evidence to fire you for this based on your letter. The tape is the catch on this on but they cannot deny what is in the log book which is standard policy for out of the ordinary circumstances. I would contact an attorney for a free consult.

you are employed "at-will" you can be terminated for any reason or no reason at all (except illegal reasons such as discrimination).
the reason is only relevant as it relates to unemployment insurance, if the employer did not have cause then you will qualify for UI (assuming you meet the other criteria).

you were wrong to hug a customer especially one of the opposite sex while working at a motel.
you were wrong to not report what you knew as soon as you found out instead of waiting until the meeting.
"perception is reality" what you did is perceived as wrong.

you do not have grounds for any law suit, contact an attorney if you feel the need but don't be surprised when they decline to represent you.

you can be fired for any reason as NC is at will employment, even if it is not true you will have a tough road ahead of you, the emplyers perception of what happened is all that matters, attorneys do not take employment cases with out a retainer and it can be very expensive, if you were not charged by the police than you really shouldn't have a problem with security clearance
